FILLING-IN OF CHOICES
For filling-in of choices of academic programs in various Institutes, candidates should login to the JoSAA portal. Candidates are NOT required to pay any fee for filling-in of choices on the online portal. A candidate may be eligible for seat allocation based on one, two or all three examinations viz., JEE (Advanced), JEE (Main) Paper-1 (B.E. / B.Tech.) and JEE (Main) Paper-2 (B.Arch. / B.Planning).
For every candidate eligible to participate in Joint Seat Allocation, only ONE seat from among the choices filled-in is made available. Hence, it is important for candidates to carefully prioritise the academic programs while filling-in the choices. Candidates are given a window in terms of number of days to fill-in their choices which will include mock seat allocations as well. This window will not be extended. Candidates should take advantage of the mock seat allocations and choose as many academic programs as possible in the order of preference.
Candidates MUST “lock” their choices after mock seat allocation. If candidates do NOT lock their choices, last saved choices will be locked automatically in the last minute of last date of choice filling. Candidates will NOT be able to change their choices / preference order any more after this.
ALLOCATION OF SEAT
A candidate chooses and applies to a series of academic programs in a certain order of preference. In the context of seat allocation, “academic program” refers to the combination of academic program and Institute. A seat to the highest possible choice of academic program is allocated to the candidate considering the following factors:
(i) The category [GEN, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, etc.] of the candidate
(ii) The position of the candidate in rank list(s)
(iii) The order of preference of academic programs by the candidate
(iv) The availability of seats in different seat categories / seat quotas for which the candidate is eligible for
FORMALITIES AFTER SEAT ALLOCATION
A candidate, who has been allocated a seat, has to download the “Provisional Seat Allocation Letter” and remit the seat acceptance fee. Admission fee varies across the institutes / category of candidates. The seat acceptance fee will be adjusted against the admission fee by the admitting institute. Suppose there is less number of seats available under a particular category in an academic program than the number of candidates with the same category-wise rank seeking admission to the program, then all those candidates will be offered seats by creating requisite number of supernumerary seats.
Candidates have to remit seat acceptance fee and report at a Reporting Centre for document verification before the last date/time specified. Seat will be confirmed by the Reporting Centre after verification of the original documents and ensuring that the candidate meets all the eligibility norms. Candidates who are allocated a seat in an NIT+ institutes have to report only at a reporting centre of NIT+ institutes. Candidates who are allocated a seat in an IIT have to report only at a reporting centre of the IITs. Seat will be cancelled if, at any time, any of the documents / certificates is found to be invalid / fraudulent and/or the candidate does not meet all the eligibility norms.
At the conclusion of joint seat allocation and seat acceptance, candidates will have to report at the admitting institute, complete all the admission formalities of the Institute, get the admission confirmed and begin the academic session. Reporting schedules at the admitting Institute will be announced on the website later.
